George
Seven years ago we adopted a wonderful mastiff/boxer mix named George that Lois Cantrell was fostering in Dayton. He was the most amazing dog I have ever ever met. We lost him on Saturday...I know we will heal, in time. He was just so amazingly tolerant of the kids wallowing him and so friendly with other dogs and new people as we drug him from campground to campground, we'll never have another like him. He learned to trust men while he was ours, but ever protective of the kids and I, he would push my husband away if he tried to tickle, wrestle with or tease us. Attached is the last picture we took of him. Taken just last week, our son had fallen asleep on George, again.
Sierra
Sierra QUICKLY became a BIG beloved member of our family and people would come visit just to see my lovable pup and give her hugs and kisses. Sadly, Sierra passed away over the winter and left an enormous hole in our hearts...I've never been so heartbroken! She was the BEST dog anyone could ask for (I'm sure everyone says that) and loved each of us unconditionally and I know there will never be another dog to take her place. Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to welcome her into my life, and giving me the fantastic years I got to spend with her while she was here!! I'm forever grateful, really. What you do is wonderful and you gave me a best friend who was by my side for years.

Bessy Jean
Cindy's tribute to Bessy Jean: A grand old lady Mastiff, who was a pillar of how the gentle lady mastiff is to be defined and experienced, has passed away this morning after a tough struggle with after-surgery complications. She was 11 and 1/2 years old. Bessy Jean was wise and accepting, intuitive beyond imagination, beautiful in personality, and the embodiment of joy and love toward everyone. She stood guard here for 9 and 1/2 years (after being rescued from a nasty puppymill at age of 2) serving as playmate, sister, mother, grandmother, comedienne, comforter to many humans, resident snorer, tail-stub wagger, signaler of storms on the wind, teacher to younguns, warning-barker to the big bad discs in the sky (she told the sun and the moon who was boss), and finally, she was an angel in life. She served a different kind of family: a family of rescue dogs, and helped many other dogs through their troubles and sorrows. I am so grateful for Bessy Jean as a helper to me here at Canisolida. She carried a lot on her shoulders and did not want the spotlight for it. How can I thank her enough? There is no way I can.

Cleo
Tribute to Cleo:
"Cleo", (short for Cleopatra as she was named when she entered Rescue), came to our Rescue literally dying from a disorder known as Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia. It is a blood disorder where as the blood cells that usually clot blood are severely diminished and so any small cut can cause a dog to bleed to death. The outlook wasn't good, but we decided to treat her. She was under treatment for over 6 mos.! Tons of meds and blood tests later, she was cured!! Now it was time to find her a forever home. And like a miracle, Chris and Glen Mackey of Michigan saw her web posting and wanted to adopt her, and, the unbelievable bonus was, they had already had a dog with the same disorder once in their lives, and they knew exactly what to watch for in case she relasped. It was a match made in Heaven! Chris and Glen gave Cleo the best of everything, plus their hearts! This sweet apricot English mastiff that was literally dying at one time, with little chance to live, let alone have a happy future, was now experiencing the life all dogs should have! Chris and Glen tended to Cleo's every need. Now, many years later, having become a senior, (beautiful white muzzle and all), Cleo passed away recently. I received pictures and stories of her life with her forever family over the years, including how she liked to run and "buck" in the air when she would get all happy playing outside, and how she loved to go to the barn and see the horses. We truly thank the Mackeys for the devotion and love that they gave to Cleo, she was truly blessed, (and I know the Mackeys felt blessed to have had her). Cleo was such a beautiful girl, inside and out! She is truly Not Forgotten.
